## Which parameters you actually need

Monitors are sold on parameter count and used on about half of it. A general ward bed needs ECG, SpO2, NIBP and temperature. A theatre or an ICU bed adds capnography and invasive pressure, and those two are what move the price. Buying a twelve-parameter monitor for a ward bed spends money on modules that will never be connected, and on consumables nobody budgeted for.

Check what comes with it. A monitor without its cuffs, leads and SpO2 probes is not usable on delivery, and those accessories are a recurring cost.

## Central monitoring

If the beds are to report to a central station, the monitors have to be compatible with each other and with the station. Mixing generations across a ward is the most common and most expensive mistake in this category.
